In the quest for fresher food with less pesticide, we grew herbs and other vegetables in our garden. Among the first herbs we grew were mint and sweet basil. Getting fresh mint is great because for store bought mint, after a few days the mint starts to lose freshness, wilt and get dark.

Growing it yourself means getting fresh from the plant anytime.

Since we started planting it, we use it in our meals almost daily. It is a great companion to eat for breakfast if you add it to your bread or even other dishes.

Mint is easy to grow with the right conditions. Hubby seems to have finally gotten the hang of it. In the past, we didn’t propagate the mint until the plant got older. The mint grew smaller over time and eventually died.

This time round, we kept propagating the stems while the plant is healthy. Harvesting those with large leaves and immediately replanting those. We also kept it in mostly in the shade with indirect sun.

We also have a small rosemary plant. Rosemary grows slowly and a bit harder to get the hang of. It needs water but doesn’t like wet roots. Will write more about other plants we grow in the future.

Stay tuned for more planting and cooking adventure to come.
